Void, known also as "The Host," is the face of the hijacked broadcasts that plague IEB-TV. Their domain reaches as far as the airwaves, and their audience is the prey. Though they typically don't harm their viewers, Void does feed on the attention to survive. So they strive to put on an entertaining show to keep eyes on them. For this reason, the relationship between Void and their audience could be seen as symbiotic, but it's more parasitic in nature. Still, the unusual nature of these broadcasts, as well as Void's keen ability to hypnotize viewers to keep them hooked, has earned them a cult following and is now considered an urban legend within California's Inland Empire.

a public access station that covers the Californian Inland Empire. Their broadcasts have become the stuff of local urban legends, claiming these surreal, unscheduled shows would air irregularly late at night. The content of these broadcasts are said to be just as strange, ranging from twisted gameshows, cartoons involving inhuman characters, strange sounds with no visuals, new broadcasts for events that never happened, and more; none of this media has any evidence of it ever happening; those who have claimed to have recorded these broadcasts found the tapes had been corrupted or wiped somehow. Witnesses of these broadcasts also have varying testimony of what the Host looks like as well- no two testimonies claiming to see something have ever matched. However, those who claim the host isn't human had erriely

Biography

Before Television (BTV)

Void took their name as they were the first among the Void's denizens to manifest a physical form and find the means to survive in the outside world. During this time, they would travel aimlessly by using unassuming doors and similar entry points to enter liminal space and appear elsewhere in the world. They rarely stayed in one place for too long, preferring to

Hijacking IEB-TV

Records show their first known appearance as "The Host" was in 1947, the same year television broadcasts began in the state of California. However, there is evidence that they existed prior to this in a different form. Their current appearance was adopted to appeal more to a human audience, aided by their ability to hypnotize viewers into seeing the human form that would most appeal to them. Because of this, Void quickly built a small, but obsessive audience that tuned in regularly out of compulsion. With each broadcast, they became stronger, with a more defined form, and harder to ignore.

After some time, the broadcasts were noticed by IEB-TV. And when numerous attempts to shut down the broadcasts proved useless, the case was assigned to Lesley "Morri" Morgan, the chief content officer at the studio. With taking Void's broadcasts down becoming Morri's primary focus, it started a cat and mouse rivalry between the two, usually ending in Void tormenting and mocking Morri. Eventually, Morri's efforts did succeed, and Void was taken off the air, driving them to desperation to find a new food source. This source became the internet, as Void moved their home from analog to digital signals. Though their reach was further than ever before, moving so suddenly without adjusting and losing their installed audience, Void became weak and dormant for the most part. Their condition continued to degrade the longer they were trapped online. It wasn't until they were forcibly returned to the tv studio that their energy returned. However, what they returned to was a very different environment.

Under New Management

Void was brought back from their online exile by the Gofer, another, new entity from the Void. With them came the Management, a larger entity that had been truly running the broadcasts and directing Void without their knowledge to feed off the viewership as well. When the broadcasts were taken down and Void disappeared, the Management was left to starve, forcing it to use what strength it had left to create Gofer to enact their will in the outside world where it cannot go. For Void, they were forced into a contract, as they had become dependent on the studio the Management had created for them. Under this contract, they were allowed to continue hosting their show as normal, but now with a more hands-on approach from the Management, using Gofer to enforce their will and ensure Void shared the energy they collected from the viewers.

Currently, Void's relationship with the Management is tense, with the two both originating from the Deep End, they're naturally territorial and aggressive. However, their fights are often short-lived with Void's smaller stature and abilities tailored around manipulating humans, where the Management's larger form and talent for controlling its own kind makes it easy to shut down rebellion.

Notes

  • Void's illusory and hypnotic powers allow them to trick viewers into perceiving them as human, but how they appear varies on an individual basis. And once an individual sees through the illusion, Void cannot prevent them from seeing their true form any longer.
  • Void's appearance changes based on how "fed" they are, being abstract and colorless when "starving"and only gaining color after feeding. Due to this, they also change when overfed, with their colors becoming bleeding streaks pulled into a black hole where their heart would be.
  • Anyone who has claimed to record these broadcasts found the tapes were corrupted, wiped, or missing. There are no known, intact recordings of any hijacked broadcast.
  • The only physical evidence of the hijacked broadcasts are strange posters and TV guides advertising the shows- though no times are ever listed. These advertisements have some residual hypnotic effect, as they compel those who look at it to tune in to the show.
  • It is believed that Void has the power to pull viewers through liminal space to appear on the show at times, as some claim to have had lucid dreams about being on stage for twisted gameshows.
